The Sverdlovsk Region is located in the center of Russia at the junction of two parts of the world - Europe and Asia. The region is located in the north-east of the Ural Federal District. The administrative center of the Sverdlovsk Oblast is Ekaterinburg.

The Sverdlovsk Region borders on the Kurgan, Chelyabinsk and Tyumen Oblasts, the Republics of Bashkortostan and Komi, the Perm Krai and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.

The largest cities are Ekaterinburg with 1.4 million people, Nizhny Tagil with 353 thousand people, Kamensk-Uralsky with 168 thousand people, Pervouralsk with 123 thousand people.
